Learn Tango

Monday Tango – Starts March 25

For the past eight years Laura and I have worked with the Wixman’s to promote Tango in the Columbia River Gorge.  Since her passing, a fund was set up in Laura’s honor to support Tango lessons in the Gorge, the Live Like Laura Green Dance Fund.  I am pleased to announce that there will be a series of progressive Tango classes supported by that fund starting Monday, March 25th.  These classes will be ongoing depending on dancer participation and will be held at the White Salmon Grange at 1085 Main Street, White Salmon, WA 98672.  No partner necessary but bring your friends.

The instructor will be Glykeria Manis, an active member of Portland’s Tango dance scene. Laura and I took a series of classes from Gly and appreciated her inclusive gentle character and unassuming style.  She would be Laura’s first choice as an instructor. She has a significant Tango background and regularly hosts dance trips to Greece, check out her website at www.tangogly.com

The cost for the class will be $10 for a single lesson and $15 for two and will follow this schedule:

  • 7:00 to 8:15 Instruction begins
  • 8:15 to 8:30 Practica/transition
  • 8:30 to 9:45 Intermediate instruction
  • 9:45 to 10:00 Practica/cool down

The calender of the class is available on gorgedance.com

You are invited to participate!  Welcome to the rich world of the Tango Embrace.  Let the Trance begin…

Sincerely, your dance partner,

John Hadley

Tuesday Hood River Elks will continue until March 19th: Harvey Wixman hosts at 7:00 pm-8:30 pm on Tuesdays at Hood River Elks Lodge. This is a practica to work on what you have learned. This is not a lesson per se but there are always people willing to dance with people of any skill level.  Enter in the left door. The practica is up stairs on the left. The cost is $5 per person. You do not have to be a member of the Elks. 304 Cascade Ave, Hood River, OR

Wednesday The Dalles Continues as Normal:  Drop-in class and guided practica by instructor Jay Rabe (formerly of Portland TangoFest). Lessons and exercises appropriate for complete beginners, focusing on fundamentals of posture, balance, some cool steps as you’re able, and of course the magic tango connection.  Lessons in The Dalles at 1805 Minnesota, Taylor Hall (St Paul’s Episcopal Church basement with Air Conditioning 🙂 Lesson 7:00 pm-8:00 pm, practica 8 pm-8:30 (or 9 pm) Cost $5.00

For all events:

  • You do not need to have a partner.
  • Slick shoes are easier to dance in.  Suede, Leather, or Duct Tape on the soles, works well.
  • Our goal is to be inclusive… you are welcome no matter your dance level.
